Rare pair of antique Chinese Qing Dynasty anatomically correct male (happy boy) and female (girl) amulet (pendant, talisman, charm) pieces, meant to bring good fortune. Includes the matching pair of antique original charms with articulated, anatomically accurate components that were culturally representative of fertility.
The charms were frequently tied onto clothing, most often by pregnant women, but were sometimes tied onto the end of a bed. Also referred to as the “lucky” or “happy” boy, the talisman was meant to bring good luck, with the hopes of having a boy and carrying on the family name. The female amulet (as well as the male) were then given as a gift for the birth.
