Set of four John James Audubon "Birds of America" collector plates: Ruffled Grouse, Cedar Waxwing, Canvas Back Duck & Baltimore Oriole, all in excellent condition. Plates are valued around $40+ individually. Audubon's project used a subscription-based model. Prints were issued in sets of five monthly in tin cases, usually including one large, one medium, and three small bird illustrations. By 1838, 435 plates (87 sets of five) had been issued. Plates were unbound without text. It's estimated that fewer than 200 complete sets were ever compiled.
