Personal Memoirs of U.S. Grant, First Edition 1885. Pages are clean and clear. First Edition, very rare. Charles L. Webster Co. 1885/86. Volume I 584 pages, Volume II 647 pages, hardcover in publisher's green cloth with embossed medallion on front and back of both volumes. At the encouragement of his close friend, Mark Twain, U.S. Grant completed his autobiography in 2 volumes just days before his death in 1885. This example shows normal wear for the age, with some weakening in the bindings. However, all pages are intact and legible . The facsimile fold out on page 312 in U.S. Grant's own hand detailing the Confederate surrender at Donelson, Tennesee in 1862 is present, full page.
